You can dictate on the on-device engine with no account at all, up to 5,000 words. This is a one-time allowance, not a monthly one — it is there so you can try Murmurtale for real before deciding anything. When you reach it, Murmurtale asks you to create a free account to keep going.
Free account: 5,000 on-device words a month
A free account (sign in with Apple, Google, or email) gets you 5,000 on-device words every month, at no cost. Dictation still runs entirely on-device — we never see your words, only the monthly count, so we can tell you when you are close to the limit and reset it each month. A free account does not include the cloud engine, apart from the free 14-day Pro trial every new account gets: cloud transcription and fiction formatting for 14 days or 20,000 cloud words, whichever comes first, with no credit card. One trial per account.
Pro: unlimited on-device, plus 60,000 cloud words a month
Pro ($14.99/month or $119/year) gives you unlimited on-device dictation on your Mac, plus the cloud engine — the default and most accurate engine, with full fiction formatting — with a fair-use allowance of 60,000 cloud words a month. Your account surface shows how much of your cloud allowance you have used and when it renews.
